This devotional style book is more about a history lesson than being a
Christian devotional. It offers history insight in the form of page
length entries which include a relevant scripture on the page. The
devotions are not traditional devotion book entries as they do not
include much, if any, insight direction or wisdom directly from the
writer. You will find stories from Christian history but I'm not sure you
will be inspired or amazed.
I was expecting more from this book as it is written by a pastor. I would
have liked to see him offer some direction to the reader. I felt the book
to be very dry and difficult to read. It felt as though I was reading a
school history textbook. Many stories actually left me sad instead of
uplifted. I don't recommend this book to anyone struggling with
depression. I did like the idea of the author including a topic index in
the back. However that wasn't enough to redeem the book for me. Overall,
I did not enjoy this book and I would not recommend it to anyone looking
for an uplifting devotional. If you want to learn a little historical
information this book may be right for you.
